At Steph The Death Doula, LLC we know talking about death and dying is not the first choice of conversation. Shoot, it’s probably the only topic that a person would probably avoid at all cost, and most do. Most people are very uncomfortable talking about death and dying, especially their own, or of someone close. Even more people aren’t willing to acknowledge the fact that they are going to die. They don’t want to “will it into existence” by thinking or talking about it. But you know what the crazy part is?? There is one thing that we can guarantee…you will not get out of here alive, which translates to…you are going to die. Now that we got that out of the way, let us help you to prepare for this one guarantee in life.

What is a Doula?

A Death Doula is a person who provides education, non-medical, holistic, emotional support, and companionship to those diagnosed with a terminal illness or who are near end of life. A Death Doula may also be utilized by the family and/or loved ones of a person who is terminal, actively dying, or for a loved one who has already passed for support and guidance.

The mission of a Death Doula is to normalize death and dying by creating spaces to hold conversations that lead to increased communication and increased spiritual and emotional well being when preparing for end of life. When a person plans for death, they have autonomy over their decisions and are empowered to clearly define their end of life wishes with family and loved ones. A Death Doula facilitates shifting the narrative around death and dying from anxiety and fear to peace and acceptance which allows a person to feel accepted, included, seen, heard, valued, safe and supported.
